5 Stap To Star Amazon Affiliate Program
Amazon Associates isn’t only about making money by promoting Amazon products. It can also help you start your own online store and make money from sales you generate, even if the products don’t come from Amazon. The service works through an affiliate program where you can earn a commission on each sale you refer to Amazon from your website or social media channels. Here’s how to get started with Amazon Associates, whether you want to promote products on your site or sell them yourself through an online store hosted on Amazon FBA. Starting an online store on Amazon is easier than you might think, and it can make you money in several ways, including through Amazon Associates and by offering in-store credit through Amazon’s Subscribe & Save program. In this article, we’ll look at how to start an online store on Amazon using both methods and walk you through the entire process of getting your product up for sale.
1. Get Started
To be an Amazon affiliate, you’ll need to have a unique, verifiable URL to promote products with. Also, Amazon strongly recommends that you use its tracking ID for every link in your marketing campaign. While there are numerous programs out there designed to help you do so (searching online store builder will show you all of them), most of them are less than ideal because they use templates that can feel generic.
2. Pick a Niche
In order to succeed with affiliate marketing, you'll need a niche. To avoid getting lost in a crowded marketplace, make sure your niche is focused enough that you'll be able to compete well against larger competitors. In other words, your product or service has to fill a specific need for your audience and solve a problem. For example, if you're an Amazon affiliate interested in video games, write about PC video games - not video games in general. If there's not enough search volume for PC video games compared to console games (which typically have more brand recognition), you may be hard-pressed to generate enough sales through Amazon. Another aspect of picking an online niche is picking one that will interest advertisers and viewers alike.
3. Choose a Product
Picking a product to sell on Amazon can be overwhelming. You want to pick an item that is in demand and will never go out of style, right? This takes time and work but is essential if you want to make money as an Amazon Affiliate Marketer. For beginners, I recommend picking out 3-5 of Amazon's top sellers in your niche and promoting each individually on social media. When you have more experience, you can start testing which items sell better than others - when paired with different promotions - and create your own Top Seller list.
4. List it on Amazon
Log into your Amazon Associates account and click Inventory from the left navigation. If you do not have an Amazon Associates account, go ahead and sign up for one. For a refresher on how to list items for sale, check out our last step on how to start an online store. In summary, it is simply a matter of adding your item's details (i.e., price, availability), selecting shipping options, and choosing a category. You can also choose to list as a pre-order which requires people to put in their payment information before they are able to purchase your product.
5. Monetize and Promote
One of my favorite ways to monetize an online store is with an Amazon Associate's account. This allows you to promote products on your website and make money when people click through and buy them. It only takes a few minutes to set up and once you have your Associate ID, you can start adding products from any category in a matter of seconds. The great thing about it is that people do most of their shopping online these days, so it’s pretty easy to promote other companies' products on your site. Once they click through and buy something, you get a percentage of that sale (usually between 4-8%) and can cash out into your bank account.
